Craftsmen in India Commence Wood Carving

We are pleased to announce that on the most auspicious occasion of Rama Navami, we achieved a significant and exciting milestone for our ISKCON Parsippany temple. Today, we signed a contract for the intricate wood carving work with a mistry (master craftsman) in India. He and his team of artists with will hand-carve a grand and exquisite altar for our deities, the main entrance doors for the temple, a majestic vyasasana for Srila Prabhupada, and a number of other such items for our altar and temple room.

The focal point of the new temple will be the grand and exquisite altar that will measure 28-feet wide and seat our most beautiful deities. The blueprints for the altar were meticulously designed over the past year by Arindama Prabhu, after he and our local devotees carefully researched the best altars and designs throughout the world. It was designed considering our interior space, the convenience of the deities and pujaris and of course, ensuring that it looks extraordinarily beautiful.

The altar and other items will be carved in the top-quality Burma teakwood, that is considered the highest quality so that this altar can stand elegantly and solidly for decades to come and especially will be suited and seasoned for the weather conditions in New Jersey.

We carefully selected the vendor, based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, after meeting a number of other vendors in India and considering the cost, workmanship, quality, reliability and other such factors.

We will keep you posted on the progress with photos and other updates over the coming months.
